[Honky Tonk is never far from Kazuki's side, and shuffles into the picture quickly. When he sees the Popplio egg, he lifts his fins to his cheeks and coos adoringly.]
That's so great-- I promise you'll love them! Tonks is a bit of a diva, but they're all really hard workers at whatever they decide to do. So you need a musical name for this egg specifically?
Yeah, singing is important to their species, so it's a safe route to pick. And depending on the word, it can fit for a boy or a girl-- The language of music is Italian, and pretty much any word can be made male or female depending on what letter it ends with.
Like you've met Maestra, my Furret, right? Maestra mean a female conductor of an orchestra, while maestro is a male conductor. Like that!
[Armin blinks, surprised by that new tidbit of knowledge, before he files it away. Will he ever end up using that? Most likely not, but it is still interesting just to know.]
Do any other pokemon of yours have music inspired names?
Yeah! Honky Tonk is a genre of American music, Xylo is short for Xylophone, which is a percussion instrument, a clef is a symbol on the music staff... And others!
That's a hard question. Tonks is like my shadow, so it's hard to ever imagine naming another Popplio, but... Primarina is the two words Prima and Ballerina put together. A Prima Ballerina is the lead female dancer in a ballet. Maybe if it's a girl, you could name it after one of those lead roles, like Giselle or Odette?
It's a kind of dance and a play and a concert at the same time. The dancers have to train really hard for a long time to master the craft. And the music that backs it up are some of the most influential songs in the classical canon.
You could find a book about musical terms too. There's a lot of them. Pretty much any word you could think of to direct your play.
There really seems to be more to know about music than I ever realised. I knew I didn't really know much about it, I just didn't know it was this... detailed and extensive.
I think it's just that... Your world hasn't had the opportunity to really spread music yet. The arts need a peaceful world to flourish in, you know? But maybe some day you'll get there!
And I'm always willing to teach anyone the fundamentals! You're super bright, I'm sure you'd catch on quick.
Shimizu's doing great! He's getting bigger-- not quite fully grown, but getting there! And he's not shy of humans anymore at all. He'd probably be fine with your pod as long as I'm there with him.
That's great news. I just hatched four new Lapras myself. He can play with them too, the next time you come to visit. He might be able to make some friends his own age. W-well, roughly his own age.
Aw, four new babies! I'm sure he'd love that. I think he might be getting a little confused about his species when his favorite swimming partner is a Furret.
I can see how that would happen. Especially when he was so young when he ended up on his own. Not to worry, I'm sure my pod would be more than willing to remind him of what being a Lapras is like. The young ones love playing games, and some of my adults join in on the fun as well.
That's a good thing though, especially when Lapras get poached. That might've started happening because they're too gentle natured... Not that that's a bad thing.
No, I agree. I can't stay with them all the time, so I really depend on Skye to keep the pod save while I am not there. Not that it is an area many people come, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
